The 104th Fighter Squadron, also known as the "Baltimoreans," is a unit of the Maryland Air National Guard based in Baltimore, Maryland. It was first activated during World War II in 1942 and has flown a variety of aircraft over the years, including P-47 Thunderbolts, F-86 Sabres, and F-16 Fighting Falcons.
The squadron has been deployed to various locations around the world, including Iraq and Afghanistan, where it provided close air support to ground troops. It also played a role in the response to the September 11 attacks, providing air defense over Washington D.C.
Currently, the 104th Fighter Squadron operates the F-35 Lightning II. It is one of the first Air National Guard units to receive the F-35 and is responsible for providing air defense and support to military operations around the world.
